Killarney Unfair TAXATION

Attention all Ratepayers. May 26, 2013

I would like to start by thanking all ratepayers for reading this letter.

I feel that every ratepayer in both Ward 1 and 2 should make their best effort to follow the instructions below to make a presentation if interested in doing so.

I feel that everyone should also at the minimum make their best effort to attend this meeting. There will be many of us from hundreds of miles away making this trip to show the support of the cottagers/landowners.

Killarney is taking advantage of us all and sitting back is just not an option.

Most of us share the same main concerns,
 Excessive tax increases continually/annually
 No services outside the immediate village of Killarney
 No attention and/or corrective action to the issues at hand
While most properties have seen modest appreciation in the past 15 years ( 200 to 300%) the taxes have increased at a rate of close to 4000% from the original taxes that we have been paying for decades. eg $35$ to $1400.
At the current rate of approx. 8% your taxes will double in the next years based on current Assessment value today.
With higher assessments this could actually turn your taxes from current $1000.00 to $2500.00 to $4000.00 and we will still have no services.
Compared to Killarney we not only do not share he following services but WE PAY for THEIR services.
 Roads
 Water
 Road maintenance
 Garbage collection
 Sidewalks
 Fire Service
 Welfare / Social Services
 Hockey Arena with Zamboni
 Schools
 Subsidies for all donations and outlays- snowmobile trails, airport, special interest groups

We can all pick and choose what services that each of us would like individually but the reality is that we need a different Mill Rate for us that would factor in all of the above.
Personally I would think that a rate of 20 to 30% of our current rate would be justified.
In reality all that do for us is process the tax invoice and collect our tax money.
Some lakes have their own access points and/or marinas and these are all extra costs to the landowners and Killarney does not contribute here either.

Thank you for taking your time to consider these factors and making the effort to continue to be proactive in this major area of concern.

Fellow Ratepayers,
On Saturday June 1st at 2:00 pm, an important special meeting to inform and obtain public input regarding the current municipal Ward Structure/Council Representation is taking place in Ward 2 at the French River Visitor Centre located south of the French River Bridge at 1 Voyageur Drive (off Highway 69). If you would like to make a presentation (written or oral) relating to this matter you must register with the Clerk-Treasurer (Candy Beauvais) before May 28th at 3:00 pm. Her email address is townkill@vianet.ca. Her telephone number is 705-287-2424.
**Please make every effort to attend this meeting**. It is important that the AD Hoc Committee investigating our "councillor at large" proposal get the message that we are unhappy with the current ward system and serious about fair representation in this municipality.
Thanks
Dan Seguin
